Kaneohe

Welcome to Kaneohe

Enjoy gorgeous mountain views and temperate weather

Kaneohe is sprawled along Kāne'ohe Bay, Hawaii's largest sheltered body of water, meandering up the Windward coast toward Chinaman's Hat. Despite its stunning coastal views and majestic mountain scenery, it is not a popular tourist destination and thus retains a relaxed, cozy atmosphere locals love. Things Kaneohe is known for:

  • Natural beauty: Kaneohe is surrounded by lush green mountains and the beautiful Kaneohe Bay. It's home to the popular Kaneohe Bay Sandbar, a shallow sandbar that's a popular spot for swimming and picnics, as well as for the scenic, winding roads of the Pali Highway.

  • Outdoor activities: Kaneohe offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities, such as hiking, kayaking, and paddleboarding. The nearby Kaneohe Bay offers great snorkeling, scuba diving and fishing.

  • Cultural significance: Kaneohe is home to the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park, a 120-acre cemetery and columbarium that features a replica of a 12th century Byodo-In Temple, a traditional Japanese temple that is a popular tourist destination.

  • Marine Corps Base Hawaii: Kaneohe is home to Marine Corps Base Hawaii, a large military installation that is one of the main employers in the area and attracts many veterans and military families.

  • Shopping and dining: Kaneohe has a small town atmosphere, with a variety of local shops, restaurants and farmers market that offer local products and traditional Hawaiian cuisine.

  • Schools: Kaneohe is home to a number of highly-rated schools, making it a great place to raise a family.

Overall, Kaneohe is known for its natural beauty, outdoor activities, cultural significance, and as a place with a strong sense of community.

Most of Kaneohe's properties for sale are a combination of old and new. Kaneohe's planned communities of the 1960s and 1970s feature mid-century modern and ranch-style properties. Kaneohe’s more rural areas feature spacious lots with a variety of homes.

Things to Do

The Kaneohe Sandbar is a naturally-formed sandbar located in the center of Kāne’ohe Bay, about a mile from land. At low tide, this picturesque location turns into a beach in the middle of the bay. It's perfect for strolling, sand football/soccer games, beach volleyball, and soaking in the sun. Surrounded by cliffs, it is an excellent location for diving, fishing, and snorkeling.

The 18-acre He'iea State Park fronting Kaneohe Bay offers natural beauty and amazing views. It's also of historical and cultural significance to ancient Hawaii. It provides access to Kaneohe Bay and has a pier from where you can launch a motorized boat, kayak, paddleboard, or surfboard.

The 40 feet Likeke Falls is an easy-to-access waterfall tucked into the mountains below the iconic Pali Lookout. It features a two-tier structure that flows into a shallow pool. You can hike here from the Pali lookout or Koolau Golf Club. Whatever your preference, it's one of the best hikes in the area.

The Windward Mall Farmer’s Market occurs every Wednesday afternoon and Sunday morning. In addition to fresh produce and fruit, expect an incredible range of prepared foods, including coconut salt water taffy, fried tako, and sweet corn. High-quality herbs, olive oils, and coffees are also available.
